Else Pals, 92, Belmond, formerly of Alexander, died October 21, 2007 at the Belmond Medical Center. Services were held Wednesday morning, October 24 at the First Reformed Church in Alexander with Pastor Phillip Arnold officiating. Burial with military rites was in the Alexander Cemetery.

Else, the son of Hannas and Ella (Eden) Pals, was born December 11, 1914 in Alexander. He attended Alexander Schools and served his country with the United States Army, stationed at Ft. Riley, KS. Else married Lois Harson on February 18, 1939 in Alexander. The couple made its home in Waterloo and later moved to Portland, OR where Else worked in the shipyards. Else and Lois moved back to Waterloo in 1945 where they raised their two daughters. He worked in construction and also at Rath Packing. As a self employed carpenter, Else loved to build homes, and he enjoyed carpentry of all kinds. Else and Lois lived in Waterloo until retirement in 1991 when they moved to Alexander, and later to Belmond. Else loved to bowl, play cards, pitch horseshoes and play checkers. He was a great storyteller and loved to eat homemade ice cream. Else was a member of First Reformed Church in Alexander and a former member of the Odd Fellows.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. Else is survived by his wife; daughters Vicki (Walt) Hirsh of Alexander and Elsie (John) Santeramo of Longmont, CO; grandchildren Pam (Kevin) Bishop, Nancy Hirsch, Johnny (Sandy) Santeramo and Christi (Don) Bova; and great-grandchildren Colin, Nick, Kadie, Tony, Joey, Angela and Gina.
