Services Held for Former Postmaster

William Edgar Lesher was born on June 21, 1881 at Abbott's Crossing in Hardin County, Iowa, to Daniel and Susan Lesher. At age 2 his family moved to Wall Lake Township, Wright County and most of his life was spent in this area. He farmed, taught school and worked for the government Postal Department, first as rural mail carrier, then Post Office Clerk and finally as Postmaster at the Clarion Post Office. He then moved his family to Pine River, Minnesota, where they lived for two years, when they returned to Clarion. Mr. Lesher followed the painting and paper-hanging trade until his retirement. He was united in marriage to Lula E. White in October, 1902. To this union were born 8 children, three sons: Donald of St. Paul, Minn.; Dale of Mobridge, So. Dakota; William Jr. of Seattle, Wash.; and five daughters; Vivian (Mrs. Chester Spikes) who preceded him in death at Fairbanks, Alaska in 1959; Daisy (Mrs. Wm. Copp) of Seattle, Wash.; Genevieve (Mrs. Erick Wicklund) of Kansas City, Mo.; Elizabeth (Mrs. Omer Benson) of Omaha, Nebr., and Rose (Mrs. Jack Carter)of Boone, Iowa. Besides these children he is survived by his wife and two brothers, Daniel of Clarion and Clarence of Pine River, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by a sister, Laura (Mrs. Herb Morrow) and a brother, Lawrence. He passed away on Saturday, December 17th, at a hospital in Omaha, Nebr., where he has made his home the past two years with his daughter and husband, the Omer Bensons. He leaves 18 grandchildren, 38 greatgrandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing. Funeral services were held Monday, December 19 at 1:30 p. m. at the Eyler Funeral Home with Rev. Larson officiating. Pallbearers were Richard Benson, Donald Benson, Omaha, Nebr.; Ronald Carter, Sioux Falls, S. D., Mickey Cornelius, Boone; Bob Kalkin, Boone and Donald Lesher, St. Paul, Minn.
