Virgil “Bud” Lekwa, 79, of Fort Dodge, died Saturday, October 6, 2007 at Tompkins Memorial Health Center in Fort Dodge. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the VFW Post #1856. Visitation will be from one hour prior to services Wednesday at Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Fort Dodge.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughter, Sena Nucaro of Des Moines, Iowa; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren; and his sister, Carol Jorgensen of Strawberry Point, Iowa; two step sons, Ivan Musselman of Eufaula, Oklahoma, and Glenn Musselman of Colville, Washington; six step grandchildren and 13 step great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Clara Lekwa; his daughter, Janet Conrad; three sisters, Grace Price, Virginia Scharf, Marjory Peterson; a step daughter, Cindy Essing; and a step grandson, Glenn Musselman.

Virgil “Bud” Oscar Lekwa was born September 19, 1928 in Dows, IA. He attended school in Dows, Eagle Grove and later Fort Dodge. Bud entered the United States Army in 1948 and in 1950 was stationed in Korea, receiving his honorable discharge in 1952. Bud married Florence Bockoven and they later divorced. For 35 years Bud was employed with Geo. A. Hormel. In 1984, he married Barbara Musselman. Bud suffered from Rheumatoid Arthritis and Parkinson’s and in May of 2007 he entered Tompkins Memorial Health Center in Fort Dodge. He was a member of the V.F.W. and a life time member of the D.A.V.
