KEARNEY -- Elinore Butler, 95, of Kearney died Monday, Jan. 23, 2006, at Good Samaritan Hospital. Services will be at 5 p.m. Thursday at the University of Nebraska at Kearney Alumni House.

She was born Aug. 8, 1910, in Eagle Grove, Iowa, to Ernst and Anna (Robinson) Rees. Survivors include daughters, Jeanne of Kearney and Evonne Von Boeck of Houston; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Additional survivors include her son-in-law, Richard Miller of Kearney.

She graduated from high school in Casper, Wyo., in 1928. She received her registered nursing degree from Mesa State College in Grand Junction, Colo., and her bachelor of arts degree in social work from Arizona State University. She was a wife, mother, nurse, teacher, world traveler and sage. Her work as a nurse-educator took her to Afghanistan, the Arctic Circle, Chile and the Navajo Reservation. She will be remembered by family and friends for her indomitable spirit, love of life, sense of adventure, and many contributions to the spiritual, mental and physical health of others. Her legacy rests with her many students and others she touched during her lifetime. She was a member of the Red Hat Society.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one brother and one sister. Memorials are suggested to Good Samaritan Hospital Hospice of the Medical Division of CARE.
