MASON CITY - Baron M. Smith, 27, of 635 Seventh St. N.E. in Mason City, died Tuesday afternoon (Sept. 25, 2007) at his home following a courageous battle with cancer. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 28, at the Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E. in Mason City, with the Rev. Wendy Johannesen officiating. Military respects will be provided by the Mason City Memorial Association. The family will greet relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. today, Sept. 27, at the Fullerton Funeral Home. The visitation will continue one hour prior to Baron's service on Friday. Those wishing to extend memorials may choose to direct them to the Mercy Cancer Center in Mason City or Hospice of N.I.

Baron Michael entered the world and into the hearts of his proud parents, Bruce and Patricia (Angel) Smith on April 28, 1980 at Mercy Hospital in Mason City. He was baptized at Wesley United Methodist Church. Baron attended schools in Mason City and graduated from MCHS in May 1998. Following graduation, Baron was inducted into the United States Army on Sept. 2, 1998, from West Des Moines and served a three-year commitment including one year in Korea. He was honorably and formally discharged from his military duties on Sept. 1, 2001. Upon his return to Mason City, Baron furthered his education at NIACC and earned his associate of applied science degree in 2006. Dreams of continuing his education toward a B.A. degree were discontinued due to Baron's diagnosis of cancer. Baron was employed at Menards in Mason City as a retail sales clerk. Baron appreciated nature and spending as much time as he could in the fresh outdoors! In his leisure time, he enjoyed downloading music and movies on his computer and reading, especially books written by the authors Chuck Palahniuk and Stephen King. Baron treasured spending precious moments with his family and close friends and lived each day to the fullest! He was a man of few words, yet filled with love and compassion! Baron will be cherished, loved and missed, more than words can express!

Surviving loved ones include Baron's parents, Bruce and Patricia Smith of Mason City; his sister, Mackenzie Smith of Des Moines; his grandmother, Verna Angel of Mason City; his grandfather, Harold Smith of Belmond; his aunts and uncles, Ron and Vicki Angel of Traer, Roger Angel, Jayna and Kenneth True and Sheila Angel, all of Mason City, Judy and Jon Klink of Klemme, Bob Smith of Belmond and Jim and Chris Smith of Post Falls, Idaho. Baron will also be dearly cherished by numerous cousins and other relatives and friends. Preceding Baron in death is his grandfather, Jesse "Jay" Angel; his grandmother, Jennie Smith; his uncle, Rick Angel and his aunt, Carolyn Smith. Fullerton Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
