DOWS - Lila Jean (Hines) Carpenter, 70, of Dows, most recently of Inver Grove Heights, Minn., passed away on Thursday (September 27, 2007) in Inver Grove Heights, Minn., after contracting pneumonia. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 2, at the Presbyterian Church in Dows. The Rev. Friested and Pastor Stan Watne will be officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Dows. Vistation will be from noon until 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Memorials may be sent in Lila's name in care of her daughter, Linda Brunsvold, 13301 Everest Ave., Apple Valley, MN, 55124. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Andrews Funeral Homes, Belmond.

Lila Jean Hines was born on Oct. 23, 1936, in Council Bluffs, to Francis and Sylvia (Brooks) Hines. As a young child, Lila moved with her family to Clarion, where she started and completed her schooling. On Jan. 23, 1954, Lila married Wallace Elmer Carpenter at the Church of Christ in Clarion. They moved to Dows where she raised two children, Linda and Michael. She was a life long homemaker, devoted wife, and loving mother and grandmother. Lila had been employed for a time at the Dows Locker and Care Center, at a motel in Iowa Falls, and for a seed corn plant in the Blairburg- Ellsworth area. Lila was active in the Presbyterian Church of Dows where she was a Sunday School teacher, served as an elder and participated in the women's organization. She also took a role in the Scouting activities her children were involved in and enjoyed hobbies like crocheting and gardening. Lila moved to Inver Grove Heights after her spinal meningitis prevented her from getting around her home easily. At Woodlyn Heights Care Center she enjoyed all activities, especially crafts and bingo, poetry and listening to music.

Lila was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Robert and Burton; sister, Marjorie Hulbert; brother-in-law, Richard Carpenter, and twin infant grandchildren, Andrew and Sine. Lila is survived by her husband, Wallace, of Inver Grove Heights, Minn.; her children Linda (Mark) Brunsvold, Apple Valley, Minn., and Mike (Dianne) Carpenter, Guthrie Center; her five grandchildren: Renee (Dean) Fitch, Des Moines, Lynne (Dean) Woods, Swan, Leliani (Mike) Walker, Des Moines, Matthew and Sarah Brunsvold, Apple Valley, Minn.; her three great- grandchildren: Cody Fitch, Skyler and Misty Dawn Walker; her siblings: Raymond (Joy) Hines, Corpus Christi, Texas, Bill (Anne) Hines, Clarion, and Merlene Andreasen, Forest City; her brothers and sisters-in-law: Pat Carpenter, Booneville, Carl (Cindy) Carpenter, Minburn, Karen (Lowell) Gualke, Mount Pleasant, Kathy (Marty) Wearda, Hampton, and Arlis (Jerry) Mapes, Swan. Andrews Funeral Home, Belmond.
