Alice L. Huisinga, 73, of Webster City, Iowa, passed away Monday, Oct. 1, 2007, at the Hamilton Hospital in Webster City following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5, 2007, at Asbury United Methodist Church in Webster City. Rev. Peter Peterson will officiate. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery in Webster City. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church. Carson Funeral Home in Dayton is in charge of the arrangements.

Alice Leona Smedley was born on Dec. 21, 1933, in Webster City, Iowa, the daughter of Harry and Pearl (Jennings) Smedley. She attended schools in Clarion and Belmond. Alice was united in marriage to Alfred C. Huisinga on Oct. 28, 1951, at the Church of Christ in Clarion. They lived on a farm northeast of Kamrar for a short time. In 1954, the couple established their home in Webster City. Alfred was co-owner/operator of Huisinga & Peterson Construction Company until retiring in 1979. In her younger years, Alice provided daycare out of her home. Alice was also active in the daily operations of their rental properties, Huisinga Apartments in Webster City. Alice was a longtime member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Webster City. She enjoyed knitting and crafts, camping, visiting with family and friends and traveling with Alfred in their motor home.

Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Alfred Huisinga of Webster City, Iowa; three daughters, Kathren (Francis) Wilcox of Marshalltown, Iowa, Belinda Ely (Robert Heinen) of Webster City, Iowa, and Sandra (Timothy) Jondal of Webster City, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Michelle (Robert) Stapp, Elizabeth Lund, David (Lisa) Ely, Scot (April) Ely, and Mitchell, Michael and Cody Jondal; four great-grandchildren, Jesse and Nathan Ely and Logan and Cael Stapp; one sister, Pauline (John) Preston of Oregon; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Mary Neal, Helen Nixon, Iona Huisinga, Rosalie Moss and three sisters in infancy; one brother, Eugene Smedley; and son-in-law, Randy Ely.
