L. E. Powers, Ill Long Time, Dies at Family Home

Leland E. Powers, former realty dealer, died at his home, 311 Wellington street, at 3 p.m. yesterday. Death was due to complications following a severe attack of pneumonia last March. Leland Earnest Powers was born at Irving, Benton county, April 6, 1871. At the age of six he moved with his parents, Dr. and Mrs. J. L. Powers, to Reinbeck, where he received his elementary education, later attending business college at Cedar Rapids. For a number of years he was engaged in business at Dows, Latimer and Rowan. In November, 1894, he was married to Cora Combellick, Alden, Ia. In the summer of 1901 he moved with his family to Waterloo, where he engaged in the real estate business. Mr. Powers was a member of First M. E. church. Surviving are the widow and four children: the oldest son, Sergt. Ivan R. Powers, is in the medical department of the U. S. army, has been in France about a year and was recently cited for bravery. The other children are: Betha M., John Lewis, and Leland Earl, all at home. Dr. F. W. Powers, president of the Black Hawk bank, is a brother and sisters are: Mrs. Julia C. Welch, Belle Plaine; Mrs. Emma A. Cramner, Minneapolis and Mrs. J. A. Webb, Waterloo.

Funeral services will be at the home, 311 Wellington street, at 3 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Elmwood.
