RENWICK — Vera Lorraine McCurry Packard was born on December 24, 1914, to Roy and Helen Packard McCurry, on a farm south of Renwick Iowa. She grew up there and graduated from the Renwick High School in 1932. On December 31, 1936, she was married to Carroll (Whitey) Packard. The couple settled in Rock Rapids, Iowa, where Whitey was employed at the Quaker Oats Co. Whitey and Vera moved to Vera’s family farm south of Renwick in 1942, and farmed there until February of 1973, when they moved into town. Whitey passed away on July 25, 1991. Vera was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Renwick, where she was active in the U.M.W. Vera also belonged to the Senior Citizens. She loved to play cards and also went on numerous bus trips. In her younger days she and Whitey went to lots of dances. They also enjoyed their fishing trips. Vera loved music and played the violin, when she was young. She died on Tuesday, September 11, 2007, at the Rotary Ann Home in Eagle Grove, Iowa, where she had been a resident since January of 2003. Vera was 92.

Surviving are her son, Steve Packard, Renwick, Iowa, one brother, Jerry McCurry and wife, Lorraine, Humboldt, Iowa, her daughter-in-law, Sally Packard, Renwick, Iowa, three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Whitey, her son, Larry, one granddaughter, Tonya, two sisters, Pat O’Brian and Jean Erdman and one brother, Stan McCurry.

Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church, Renwick, with Pastor Dale Schoening officiating. Burial is in Elmwood Cemetery, rural Renwick. Visitationis 6:00-8:00 P.M. today at Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Renwick, Iowa.
