EAGLE GROVE — Shirley Ann Benton, the daughter of Frank and Marguerite (Moser) Russell, was born on Nov. 13, 1928, in Eagle Grove. She was raised and educated in Clarion and Eagle Grove and graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1947. On June 26, 1948, Shirley was united in marriage with Evan D. Benton in Eagle Grove, where the couple made their home. Shirley worked for Kenefick Pharmacy. Shirley was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove. She enjoyed knitting, quilting, reading and crossword puzzles. She also loved flowers and gardening. Shirley passed away on Friday, August 24, 2007, at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge at the age of 78 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Evan in 2003 and two brothers, Leo and James. Survivors include her children: James Michael Benton and wife Sue of Iowa City, Steve Benton and wife Nancy of Woodbury, MN, Rose Lake of Iowa City and Deb Bowden of Humboldt; 10 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Kathy Keeling of Clarion and Marjorie Handley of Capistrano Beach, CA; a brother, Thomas Russell of Twin Lakes, WI; and three sisters-in-law, Linda Oberhelman of Missouri, Louise Russell of Eagle Grove and Judy Russell of Clarion. Memorials may be directed to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove with Father Chris Podhajsky officiating. Visitation is Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove with a Rosary at 5 p.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at Eagle Grove.
