WATERLOO — Josephine L. Smith, 87, of Waterloo, died Saturday, Aug. 26, at Covenant Medical Center of a cerebral hemorrhage. She was born Sept. 30, 1918, in Clarion, daughter of Raymond and Fern Shaffer Hoyt. She married Robert L. Smith on Nov. 11, 1939, in Clarion. Mrs. Smith worked as a billing clerk for Black’s Department Store for 25 years.
Survivors include: her husband; two daughters, Karen (Alan) Hibben Levi of Waterloo and Janice (Robert) Elefsrud Heng of Lincoln, Neb.; 13 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by: three brothers, Kenneth, James and Arnold “Bud” Hoyt. Memorial services: 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, with inurnment in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Locke Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials: may be directed to the church or Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
