Nelda B, Marshall, 82, of Mahnomen, Minn., died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks. Nelda was born Jan. 22, 1920, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, the daughter of George Baker and Pearl Sunflower (Chambers) Harlan. She attended grade schools in Woolstock, Rockwell City, and Thor, Iowa. She graduated from Thor High School. Following high school, Nelda went on to receive her registered nurse diploma from St. Luke s Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She was employed at St. Luke's until March 1948. Nelda was united in marriage to John Alfred Marshall on April 3, 1948, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In 1953, they moved to Mahnomen. John died Oct. 31, 1962. After the death of her husband, Nelda went back to work as a nurse. She was employed as the director of nursing in Mahnomen County and Village Hospital and Nursing Center in Mahnomen. Nelda held this position for several years and retired in the early 1980s. Kind, caring, loving, generous, and dedicated are all words that describe Nelda. She spent most of her time doing things for others. Helping her friends and family brought her much joy. Nelda was a member of Circles of Faith United Church of Christ in Waubun, Minn.

Nelda is survived by two sons, John (Sharon), Grand Forks, and Jerry (Jeannie), Reno, Nev.; six grandchildren, John A. and Garnet Marshall, both of Chandler, Ariz., Kathryn (Shawn) Rampelberg, Fargo, Kari (Kevin) Schwab, Moorhead, John and Joanne Marshall, both of Reno; two great-grandchildren, Haley Rampelberg, Fargo, and Keanen Schwab, Moorhead; and one sister, Flora Whitaker, Colorado. She was preceded in death by her husband; son, James on May 31, 2002; sister, Lois Bath; and brother Daryl Harlan. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, in Circles of Faith United Church of Christ, Waubun. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 14 in Mattson Funeral Home, Mahnomen, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. and one hour before the funeral in the church. Mattson Funeral Home, Mahnomen.

NELDA MARSHALL
Nelda H. Marshall, formerly of Eagle Grove, Iowa, died Wednesday, October 9, 2002, at the Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, N. D., at the age of 82. Survivors include two sons, John Marshall, and wife, Sharon, Grand Forks, and Jerry Marshall, and wife, Jeannie, Reno, Nev.; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and her sister, Flora Whitaker, Aurora, Colo. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, James; two sisters, Evelyn Harlan and Lois Bath; and brother, Daryl Harlan.

Nelda Harlan was born January 22, 1920, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She was the daughter of George and Pearl Harlan. She graduated from Thor High School. She went on to receive her Registered Nurse degree from St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. On April 3, 1948 she was united in marriage to John A. Marshall in Cedar Rapids. They later moved to Mahnomen, Minn. After her husband's death in 1962, she went back to work as Director of Nursing at the Mahnomen County and Village Hospital until she retired in the 1980's.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 15, at the Circles of Faith United Church of Christ in Waubun, Minn.
