Former Belmond Woman Succumbs

Belmond friends last week received the sad news of the death of Mrs. Erma Ramsay 79, of Missoula, Mont., where she had made her home since 1947, after the death, of her husband, the late Wallace Ramsay, who was once co-publisher and co-owner of the independent. Friends of Mrs. Ramsay were informed of her death by her daughter, Mrs. Ruth Teel with whom she had made her home. The funeral was held there on Wednesday of last week. The body was to be cremated and the ashes will be interred in Belmond cemetery this spring, accompanied here by Mrs. Teel and son, Nicky. Mrs. Ramsay was born near Goodell, June 18, 1878, the daughter of John and Nancy Robbins. On Sept. 10, 1902 she was married to Wallace R. Ramsay, who two years earlier with his brother, Walter C. Ramsay, had purchased the Iowa Valley Press, a local newspaper of that day. Mrs. Ramsay had been afflicted with a heart ailment that was not regarded as immediately serious, and "was recently in fairly good health. She was planning one of her trips to Belmond in the spring. While enjoying a walk on that Saturday afternoon, death came to her very suddenly.

The Ramsays were parents of three children, a son and daughter died in infancy. The only surviving child is Mrs. Teel. Mr. Ramsay died in April 1946 and a sister, Mrs. Chester (Vida) Luick, died in August 1952 from injuries suffered in an auto accident. An older sister Mrs. Delia Beckwith, died many years ago in Seattle, Wash. During her 10 years in Missoula, Mrs. Ramsay made many friends and was active in the Methodist church there, as here in former years, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her and were privileged to be counted as her friends.
