DR. CHARLES CUMMING -- West Des Moines
Charles M. Cumming, 62, of the 1000 block of Woodland Park Drive, West Des Moines, died of a stroke Tuesday at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. The body was cremated, and memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Plymouth Congregational Church, of which he was a member. Burial of the cremains will be at Plymouth Memorial Gardens. Dr. Cumming was born in Fort Dodge and had lived in Eagle Grove as a youth. He had lived in Ames for more than 20 years before moving to West Des Moines in 1987. He was an optometrist with Whylie Eye Care in West Des Moines and also had practiced in Ames for 20 years. He was a member of the Ames Arts Council, ACTORS, Cyclone Club, Elks Club, Ames Jaycees and his church's choir. He had served on the board of Octagon Art Center and was an avid Iowa State Cyclones fan and enjoyed traveling, gourmet cooking and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy, two sons, Chris of Los Angeles and Todd of Ames a daughter, Tracy Cumming of San Francisco a brother, Douglas of Menomonie, Wis. and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Dunn's Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Plymouth Church Foundation.
