George Wright was born July 21, 1908, in Eagle Grove, Iowa, the son of Ted and Viola (Welsh) Wright. He was the great grandson of Andrew Wright, a pioneer settler of Wright County, and was raised and educated in the area of his birth, graduating from Sacred Heart High School in 1926. He received his A.B. Degree from Loras College in 1930 and his Juris Doctor Degree from DePaul University Law School in 1933. George then returned to Eagle Grove and opened his own Law Practice, retiring in 2001. On November 22, 1939, George was united in marriage with Lillian Rosella Peterson at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove. George served in the United States Navy during W.W.II from 1944 to 1946 as a codes and cipher officer in the Southwest Pacific Theatre. George was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus (for 75 years) – District and State Deputy, V.F.W, American Legion and Wright County, State of Iowa and the American Bar Association. He served as Eagle Grove City Attorney for 5 years and Wright County Attorney for 5 years.

George Wright passed away on Wednesday, July 25, 2007, at Rotary Ann Nursing Home in Eagle Grove at the age of 99 years. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife Lillian Wright of Eagle Grove; three sons, Rev. David Wright of St. Louis, MO, Donald Wright of Cincinnati, OH and Thomas Wright of Alexander, North Carolina; grandsons, Ted Wright of Arlington, MA and Robert Wright of Portland, OR; granddaughter, Katherine Wright of Cincinnati, OH; great granddaughters, Cassin and Hutton Wright of Portland, OR and Lyndsey Wright of Arlington, MA; and a sister, Helen Wright of San Antonio, TX. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.

Memorial Services will be held Monday, July 30, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove with Father David Wright and Father Chris Podhajsky officiating. George deeded his body to the University of Iowa for research.
