FARMER DROWNS IN BUTTERMILK; BROTHER IS HELD

Clarion, Ia., Nov. 7 (AP)--Walter Ahrens, 56, Belmond, Ia., farmer, was charged with manslaughter today after a coroner's jury returned a verdict that the death of his elder brother was "due to drowning in buttermilk" following a truck accident, Sheriff Roy E. Wilson reported.

Wilson said an autopsy showed that George Ahrens, 61, also a farmer, died of strangulation when open drums of buttermilk in the truck spilled over him after the truck overturned in a ditch. Walter Ahrens was driving, Wilson said, and George jumped as the truck started into the ditch. He was pinned to the ground by the truck, the sheriff related, and the buttermilk poured over him. The sheriff, who filed the manslaughter charges, said Walter Ahrens was intoxicated.
