Mary Katherine Harson Hayden was born on April 10, 1947, in Mason City, Iowa, to Merton L. and Marguerite Anita (Albro) Harson. Mary went home to be with Jesus on July 6, 2007, at her home in Spearfish. Mary lived in Klemme, Iowa, and in rural Jewell, Iowa, until 1957, when her family moved to Nevada, Iowa. Mary graduated from Nevada Community High School in 1965, and from Ellsworth Iowa Community College in 1966. Mary moved to Des Moines, Iowa, in 1966, where she worked at various insurance companies as a commercial claims examiner. In 1993, Mary moved to Colorado Springs, Colo., and then to Spearfish in 1998.
Mary was married to Ray Morris and later to Michael Combs, both of whom she was divorced from, and to Gary Hayden who preceded her in death in 1995. She was also preceded in death by her parents. Mary is survived by her many loving friends in Spearfish, her cat, Bandit, and by her sister Luana (Lyman) Stoneking of Ames, Iowa, her nephew Jason (Sarah) Boten and great-niece and nephew Maslin Marguerite and Gibson James Marshall Boten all of Urbandale, Iowa and aunts, uncles, and cousins in Iowa and Oregon. A memorial service will be held in Spearfish on Monday July 16, 2007, with a private family burial service to be held at a later date in Rowan, Iowa.
