FRANCES G. HILGER, 92, of Fairmont

Mass of Christian Burial for Fran G. Hilger, 92, of Fairmont, MN will be 11:30 A.M. Friday, July 13, 2007 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont, MN with Fr. Kevin Connolly officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Thursday, July 12, 2007 at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont and one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Friday. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Blue Earth, MN at a later date. Frances Gertrude Garry was born September 22, 1914 in Daugherty, IA, the daughter of Michael J. and Gertrude (Gorman) Garry. Her father managed the elevator and lumber yard at Daugherty, IA. The family moved to Elmore, MN in 1915 and Eagle Grove, IA in 1920 and then to Iona, MN in 1926. At all locations Fran's father operated the local grain elevator. Fran attended St. Columba School in Iona and graduated from the high school in 1932. After graduation she attended St. Theresa's College in Winona, MN. She was in the nursing program, training at St. Mary's Hospital in Minneapolis. She graduated from St. Theresa's in June of 1937 with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. Fran then moved to Great Falls, Montana where she was Director of Nursing at the Columbus School of Nursing in Great Falls. She returned to Fairmont in 1939 and was a nurse at the Fairmont Community Hospital as well as doing special duty and Red Cross nursing during the war years. In November of 1945 Fran was united in marriage to Ignatius (Nate) Hilger at Fairmont, MN. They lived in Blue Earth, MN and then moved to Lakefield, MN where they owned and operated the Lakefield Cleaners. In 1965 they moved to Fairmont. Nate died in 1981 and Fran moved to Woodland Manor in Fairmont in December of 2000. She was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont and was a long-time member of St. Girard Circle. Fran is survived by her brother, Michael Garry and his wife, Elizabeth, of Fairmont; one sister, Dorothy Scheuring, of Minneapolis; sisters-in-law, Sylvia Maher, Dorothy Hilger and Zita Ferquherson; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a multitude of friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nate Hilger; her parents, Michael J. and Gertrude Garry; brothers-in-law, Joseph Scheuring, Robert Tempel, Lawrence, Jack and Urban Hilger, Walt Maher and Nick Salic; sisters-in-law, Camillus Tempel, Irleen Hilger, Zita Ferquherson and Bernadine Salic. Memorials are requested to the St. John Vianney School Endowment Fund, Fairmont Area Knights of Columbus, or the charity of your choice.
