Raymond Hoeppner Killed in Korea February 4

Word was received Tuesday from the War department that Raymond Hoeppner, 19, of Clarion, had been killed in action in Korea Feb. 4. He is the first Wright county man to lose his life in the Korean war. Raymond was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hoeppner who until Monday lived at the Ernest Martin farm north of Clarion where Mr. Hoeppner was employed. They had left Monday for Sac City where Mr. Hoeppner has employment. A member of the reserve after being honorably discharged from the army, Raymond was called back into service in late September, 1950. He had been married on Sept. 12 to Jeanine Davies, daughter of Mrs. Mac Russell of Clarion. The last letter from Raymond had been mailed Jan. 21. In the letter he said that he was going to Pusan shortly. From these facts it was determined that he could not have been at the front very long. The Hoeppner family lived in the Ft. Dodge vicinity before coming to Clarion a year ago.
