Martha Oleson Succumbs Friday

Funeral services were held Monday at Wilson funeral chapel at Eagle Grove for Mrs Martha Oleson, 87, of Clarion, who died Friday at St. Mary's hospital in Minneapolis, Minn., where she had undergone an operation Monday, July 27. Rev. Fred M. Shultz of Dayton officiated. Interment was on the family lot in Glenwood cemetery at Goldfield. Special music was furnished by Mrs. Conger Whyte. Pall bearers were Loyd Olson, Torres J. Hill, Kenneth Boyd, Leland Allbaugh, Wallace Larson and Richard Ashpole.

Martha S., daughter of Lars E. and Sarah Frowick, was born on Sept 3. 1865, near Slater in Story county. Her early life was spent on the farm with her parents, brothers and sisters. She attended the Story county schools. She was baptized and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith. On September 20. 1893, near Slater she united in marriage to O. M. Olson and to this union seven children were born. The greater part of their life was lived on their farm home in the Evergreen neighborhood northwest of Eagle Grove. She was an active member of the Samuel Lutheran church at Eagle Grove. She was active in club work and a charter member of the Evergreen D.O.C. During the past several years she has made her home with her youngest daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Ashpole at Clarion.

She was preceded in death by her husband, O. M. Oleson, and two brothers. Edward and Ole Frowick: two sisters. Miss Emilea Frowick and Mrs. Dennie Helland; also one granddaughter. Julie Ellen Ashpole. Surviving are one son, Loyd of Eagle Grove, and six daughters, Cora, now Mrs. Leland G. Allbaugh of Knoxville, Tenn., Edith S. of Des Moines, Jeanette M., now Mrs. T. J. Hill of Tulsa. Okla., Sylvia B., now Mrs. Wallace Larson of Minneapolis, Minn., Myrtle, now Mrs. Kenneth Boyd of Cincinnati, O., and Dorothy, Mrs. Richard Ashpole of Clarion. Also seven grandchildren survive: Betty Lou, now Mrs. Richard Young of Ft. Dix, N. J,; Darcia, Mrs. Vernon Christensen of Eagle Grove, Dr. Hobart [should be Robert] Allbaugh of Minneapolis, Minn.. James Wm. Allbaugh of Ft Sill, Okla, Judy Larson of Minneapolis, Minn., Jimmy and Kenley Ashpole of Clarion. Also surviving are three great-grandchildren, Sally, Kathy and John Alan Young of Ft. Dix, N. J.
