GARNER - Ilene Beyer, 70, died Saturday (March 27, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Unit, Mason City. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 Thursday, April 1, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garner with the Rev. Clyde Kieschnick and the Rev. Robert Bronson as co-officiants. Burial will be in Concord Township Cemetery in Garner. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner.

Ilene Sedell Beyer, the daughter of Severin and Ida (Larson) Skauge was born June 17, 1928, at Kanawha. She attended rural schools and then graduated from Clarion High School in 1945. She worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Clarion and later was transferred by the company to Minneapolis. In 1956 she moved to Rochester, Minn., to work in the new district office they had recently opened. She continued to work there until 1970. On Aug. 6, 1960, she was married to Maynard Charles Beyer at St. Pius Catholic Church in Rochester, Minn. In 1970 they moved to Garner. She enjoyed being a homemaker and Girl Scout leader. She also enjoyed traveling, golfing, playing with her grandchildren, doing volunteer work and serving on the North Iowa Girl Scout Council and on the Garner Country Club board for seven years. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school and Christian Education, L.W.M.L., Rebekah Circle, the Wa Tan Ye's, the General Federation Woman's Club and the Alpha Zeta Chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.

She is survived by her husband, Maynard Beyer of Garner; her daughter, Lisa Johnson and her husband, Don, of Garner; two grandchildren, Blake and Mallory; a sister, Alva Hasty and her husband, Grover, of Kanawha; a brother, Harold Skauge and his wife, Loma, of Clarion; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Gladys Robb, June 26, 1996. Ilene had a wonderful faith in God, a deep love for her family and was loved by all. She will be sadly missed by those close to her.
