Matilda (Tillie) Ainslie, 90, passed away Friday (Sept. 29, 2000) at Belmond Health Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Belmond with the Rev. Celestyne DeVance officiating. Burial will take place in Dumont Cemetery near Dumont. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Dugger Ewing Funeral Home in Belmond and will resume one hour prior to services at the church Tuesday.
Tillie, the daughter of Popo and Hendrieka Moulder Stubbe was born May 25, 1910, near Dumont in Butler County. She grew up in the Dumont area and graduated from Dumont High School. Following graduation Tillie received her Normal Training Certificate at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She taught country schools in Butler and Wright counties, including Iowa Township School near Belmond. Tillie was united in marriage with Isaac Ainslie on Aug. 10, 1930, in Palo Alto County. Following their marriage, the couple farmed near Aredale and Alexander for many years. Tillie and Ike spent their winters in Arizona for many years. Following Ike's death in 1978 Tillie continued to enjoy her many friends in Arizona. She enjoyed playing in a kitchen band in Arizona. She also enjoyed painting and gave much of her artwork to friends and relatives. Tillie was a member of the United Methodist Church in Belmond. She was also a member of the Eastern Star.
Tillie is survived by one daughter, Denise Kalkwarf and her husband, DuWayne, of Belmond; her grandchildren, Sharon Bosshardt and her husband, Norman, of Gilbert, Ariz., and Diane Scott and her husband, Tim, of Payson, Ariz.; great-granddaughter, Tracey Bossardt; three sisters, Emma (Het) Marsh of Clarksville, Gertrude Marsh and her husband, Ralph, of Greene, and Viola (Bobbie) Davis of Dumont; one sister-in-law, June Stubbe of Aredale; numerous nieces, nephews; and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ike; a grandson, Gene Kalkwarf; one sister; and five brothers. Dugger Ewing Funeral Home.
