AMES — William Johnson Jr., 70, formerly of Kanawha, died Friday (Aug. 21, 1998) at Mary Greeley Hospital, Ames. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Norway Township Cemetery, Kanawha, with the Rev. Jack Paisley officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Ewing Dugger Funeral Home, Kanawha.

William, the son of William and Mabel Eliason Johnson, was born on March 21, 1928, in Wright County, near Kanawha. Growing up on the family farm, Bill attended local rural schools and graduated from Kanawha High School in 1946. His military service was in the U.S. Navy from 1946 to 1948, where he served in the Philippine and Mediterranean seas and on the East Coast. Upon returning from the service, he attended Iowa State College in Ames for a year. Bill then moved to the West Coast and completed work on his bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering. He graduated Cum Laude and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Bill worked for the Hewlett-Packard Company in Palo Alto, Calif.; for the IBM Company in San Jose, Calif., and Rochester, N.Y., and also for the Chrysler Corporation. He had also worked in various other places in Illinois and Iowa, and was working and living in Nevada at the time of his death.

William is survived by three sisters, Arlene Peterson and her husband, Dolan, of Gering, Neb., Marie Nelson and her husband, Wally, of Des Moines, and Corinne Rosendahl and her husband, Frank, of Columbus, Neb. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
