SHEFFIELD - Jerome "Jerry" Fayette Hall, died Saturday (Oct. 27, 2001) at his home in rural Sheffield. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Zion-St. John Lutheran Church in Sheffield, with the Rev. Kent Mechler officiating. The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf-Grarup Funeral Home in Sheffield.

Jerry Hall was born July 2, 1931, in Woolstock, the son of Charles Leo and Hilda Luella (Shaw) Hall. He began country school at Woolstock and when he was eight years old, his family moved to Meservey where he attended and graduated from Meservey High School in 1950. Jerry entered the Army in 1952 and served in Korea during the Korean War. He returned to Iowa and farmed with his father at Meservey. Jerry was united in marriage to Jeanette Johnson on June 24, 1956, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They made their home in rural Sheffield. Jerry attended the Reisch College of Auctioneering. He worked as an auctioneer, raised purebred Hereford Cattle and purebred Hampshire Sheep. He also sheared sheep in the area for many years. Jerry was a member of Zion-St. John Lutheran Church in Sheffield and served on the church council. He was a member of the Franklin County Cattlemen's Association and was a 4-H leader. Jerry enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family and friends and working with his cattle.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Hall, of Sheffield; daughter, Joan (Dennis) Worden, of Oelwein and their children, Noah, Jonna, Jacob and Logan; daughter, Sue (Tim) Collins, of Sheffield and their children, Elizabeth, Erin, Abby and Sam; son, Todd (Lorri) Hall, of Sheffield and their son, Cole; sister, Wyona (Faye) Denger, of Clarion; brother, Charles (Liz) Hall, of Des Moines; sister, Constance Binder, of Spencer; brother-in-law, Ed Duregger; and a host of treasured friends. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Franklin Hall; sister, Sharon Duregger; and brother-in-law, Chris Binder. Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf-Grarup Funeral Home
