EAGLE GROVE — Robert Edwin Armstrong, the son of Luke and Lucy (Fritz) Armstrong, was born August 8, 1920, in Ocheyedan, Iowa. He was raised and educated in Clarion. On September 23, 1940, Robert was united in marriage with Viola Munson at Algona, Iowa. Robert served from 1942 to 1945 in the United States Army during W.W.II. He received 4 Bronze Stars for serving in the Rhineland, Central Europe, Normandy and Northern France Campaigns. Robert worked in trucking and construction. Robert was a member of Samuel Lutheran Church. He served on the Eagle Grove Fire Department for many years, was a member of the V.F.W. and was an avid sports fan.

Robert passed away Friday, June 29, 2007, at his home, at the age of 86 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters, Ilene Armstrong and Marjorie Menning; 3 brothers, Chester, Raymond and Ralph Armstrong and a daughter, Betty Janssen. Survivors include his wife, Viola of Eagle Grove; daughter Helen Campbell and husband Gilbert of Bentonville Arkansas; son, Doug Armstrong and wife Nikki of West Des Moines; 7 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren and a sister, Mary Kerch of Clarion.

Funeral services will be held Monday, July 2, 2007, 10:00 a.m. at Samuel Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove with Pastor Stan Peterson officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home, Eagle Grove. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
