BRITT - Jake P. Brouwer, 83, of Britt, passed away Tuesday (May 29, 2007) at Mercy Medical Center- North Iowa in Mason City. Funeral services for Jake Brouwer will be held Saturday, June 2, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Britt with Pastor Robert Dodge officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Britt. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Ewing Dugger Funeral Chapel in Britt and one hour prior to services at the church.
Jake Phillip Brouwer, the son of John and Hanna Sweers Brouwer, was born Oct. 20, 1923, in Britt. He attended country schools in the Britt area. Jake then worked for various farmers in the area until his marriage. On June 30, 1955, Jake was united in marriage with Genevieve M. "Jennie" Grothe in Clarion, Iowa. The couple made their home in Britt, moving only once throughout their marriage. Jake was employed as a carpenter and then at Winnebago Industries for 27 years. He enjoyed helping his children and grandchildren with carpentry work and was a very good teacher. The time he spent with his great-grandchildren was very special to him. In his early years, Jake loved his fishing trips to Red Wing, Minn.; he also enjoyed trips to the casino. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Britt.
Jake is survived by his wife, Jennie; four children, Karen (Dale) Douglas, David (Mary) Brouwer and Keith (Pat) Brouwer all of Britt, and RoseAnn (Kevin) Duryee of Forest City; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; seven brothers and sisters: Cornelia Scheibel, Esther Rapp, Tena Cook, Harold "Bud" Brouwer, John (Mary) Brouwer, Helen Shipp and Norma (Kay) Schuver; and many nieces, nephews and other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant granddaughter Lora; and brother Phillip. Ewing Dugger Funeral Chapel, 178 Center St. W., Britt.
