June 24, 1913 --- November 9, 2000

MASON CITY - Cecil Myrtle "Gertrude" Alsvig, 87, died Thursday (Nov. 9, 2000) at Good Shepherd Care Center, Mason City. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Jana Swenson of Zion Lutheran Church officiating. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. the same day at Holmes Lutheran Cemetery near Holmes, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Gertrude Alsvig Memorial Fund.

Gertrude was born June 24, 1913, in Holmes, the daughter of Adolph and Marie (Johnson) Alsvig. [NOTE: should be AMDAHL] She was raised in that area, graduating from Clarion High School. Gertrude was united in marriage to Ingvald Alsvig of Stavanger, Norway, on July 4, 1936, in Holmes. To that union was born a daughter, Maridean, and a son, Loren. The couple farmed several years in the Clarion and Riceville areas before retiring to Clear Lake. They lived in Clear Lake several years before Ingvald passed away and Gertrude entered the Good Shepherd Care Center.

Gertrude is survived by her daughter, Maridean Baker of Marshalltown; her son, Loren Alsvig of Bullhead City, Ariz.; six grandchildren, Brenda Reese, Mark Baker, Cory Baker, David Alsvig, Kathy Janssen and Brett Alsvig; one step-grandson, Todd Johnson; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; one sister; and her husband, Ingvald, on Sept. 6, 1988. Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel.
