ALDEN—Iola Jass, 92, formerly of Alden, died Friday, Oct. 14, 2005, at the Hampton Health Care Center in Hampton. Interment will be in the Oakhill Cemetery near Popejoy at a later date. Boeke Funeral Home of Hubbard is in charge of arrangements.

Iola was born Nov. 5, 1912, near Eldora, to Ross and Cora (Struck) Hartman. After high school she attended Upper Iowa University and graduated in 1934. She taught school in rural Franklin County for seven years. She married Herman Jass Jr. of Dows at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Alden on Feb. 18, 1939. They farmed in Hardin and Franklin counties their entire married life of 54 years. They were the parents of two sons, Robert and James. Iola was a member of the Popejoy Methodist Church and their United Methodist Women’s Group. Survivors include sons Robert (Cheryl) Jass of Alden and James (Pauline) Jass of Dows, six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. She leaves to mourn many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman in 1993; her parents; three brothers, Charles, George and Harold; three sisters, Pearl Gardalen, Caroline Blome and Myrtle Blome; and one great-granddaughter.
