Leona E. (Gorder) Hackbarth, 97, of Iowa Falls, died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006, at Scenic Manor Care Center. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at the Linn’s Funeral Home Iowa Falls Chapel, with the Rev. Don Preston officiating. Burial will be in Northlawn Cemetery. Leona Evelyn Gorder was born Jan. 16, 1909, in rural Popejoy to Emma (Ellingson) and Chris Gorder. She graduated from Dows High School. On Jan. 15, 1938, she was married to Verlynn D. Hackbarth in Iowa Falls. They farmed east of Dows until 1959, when they moved to Iowa Falls. She worked as a clerk at the Popejoy grocery store and also as a waitress at The Princess Café in Iowa Falls prior to her marriage. She later worked at the Iowa Falls Junior High School in the lunchroom and had a rooming house for college students. She was a farmer’s wife, raised six children and was a Rawleigh sales consultant.

Leona is survived by her children, Marlys (Robert) Smith of Monona, Barbara (Richard) Thompson of Monona, Norma Jacober of Columbia, Mo., Judy (David) Orth of Ankeny, and Randy Hackbarth of Iowa Falls; daughter-in-law, Jeanne Hackbarth of Waterloo; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one brother, Wally Gorder of Iowa Falls; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Verlynn, in 1993; one son, Verle, in 2000; one brother, Dale Gorder; and one sister, Avon Price.
