CLEAR LAKE, IOWA - Funeral services for Mrs. James A. Hanley, 93, 600 2nd Ave. N. will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Osthus Funeral Home with Elder Charles Cackler, Fort Dodge, officiating. Mrs. Hanley died Friday morning in a Clear Lake nursing home where she had been since November. Burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery. Pocahontas (Vanderpool) Hanley was born Feb. 19, 1879, at Spickard, Mo., the daughter of William and Ella (McVay) Vanderpool. She was educated in Hamburg and on July 11, 1900 was married to James Albert Hanley at Sidney. They farmed near Rockport, Mo., until 1925 when they moved to a farm near New Hampton, then to a farm near Forest City in 1928 and the Clear Lake area in 1929. They moved to their present home in Clear Lake in 1944. She is survived by five sons, Guy Hanley, Rogue River, Ore.; James Leonard Hanley, Wood Dale, Ill.; Robert, Dickyville, Wis.; Richard and Jimmie, both of Clear Lake; a daughter, Mrs. Phil (Elizabeth) Thurtle, Eagle Grove; one sister, Sylvia Roundtree, Montebello, Calif.; 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Mrs. Hanley was preceded in death by her husband in March 1963; a son, John Mark, in infancy; and one sister. She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Latter Day Saints, the Woman's Relief Corps, Tina Rebekahs, Grandmother's Club and was a charter member of AmVets Auxiliary. Members of the AmVets Auxiliary will attend the services in a body, according to Mrs. Ed Ashland, president. Pallbearers selected include Jerris Piggott, Vernon Nyhus, Carl McGuire, David McVicker, Jay McVicker, Wayne Wilcox. Miss Lannette Nyhus will be the organist and Mrs. Vernon Nyhus and Mrs. Dale Sargent, vocalists. Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Sunday until time of services at the funeral home.
