Funeral services for Clarence H. "Jack" Foster, 85, of East Moline, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 29, at First Baptist Church, Moline. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation will be one hour before services at the church. Mr. Foster died Saturday, May 26, 2007, at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Moline. Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, is handling arrangements.

Mr. Foster was born Dec. 23, 1921, in Hiteman, Iowa, to Clarence P. and Mary E. Stevenson Foster. He grew up and went to school in Newton, Iowa. After school, he served two six-month terms in the Civilian Conservation Corps from June 1, 1940, to June 30, 1941. He married Doris E. Saar Oct. 18, 1941, in Clarion. She died June 19, 1966. He then married Dorothy V. (Kennedy) Doty Feb. 11, 1967, in Moline. He served two years of active service in the Army during World War II with the 90th Infantry "Tough Ombres" Division under Gen. George S. Patton 3rd Army Command. He spent four months as a prisoner of war in Germany. He served 18 years in the Active Army Reserves and retired in October 1964 to the Retired Army Reserves as a first sergeant with numerous medals including the Bronze Star, the European Theater with two battle stars, the Prisoner of War Medal, the Victory Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal, the Presidential Unit Citation, the Combat Infantry Badge and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2153 in Moline. He retired Dec. 31, 1978, as an inspector for the John Deere Parts Distribution Center in Milan, with 37 1/2 years of service of which 32 years were spent at the Deere Spreader Works in East Moline as a precision and hand tool grinder. He was a member of UAW Local 79 Retirees. He served as an usher and on the board of trustees for several terms at First Baptist Church in Moline, where he had been a member since 1949.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Dorothy Foster, East Moline; stepsons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Mardell Doty, Bartlett, Ill., the Rev. Daniel and Beverly Doty, Maquon, Ill., Rodger and Judy Doty, Sonoma, Calif.; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; his niece, Laurie Ehlers, Moline. He was preceded death by his parents, first wife, a sister and three brothers.
