June 8, 1995MASON CITY --Leslie John Snyder, 84, of 1808 Main St., Gowrie, Iowa, formerly of Mason City, died Monday (June 5, 1995) at Gowrie Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 329 E. State Street, with the Rev. James B. Norem officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. with a White Shrine service at 7 p.m. followed by Masonic Services conducted by Benevolence Lodge #145 A.F. & A.M. There will be further visitation one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.
Leslie John Snyder was born Feb. 22, 1911 in Wright County, Iowa, the son of George W. Snyder and Lillian (nee) Jacobs Snyder. The Snyder family moved to Mason City in 1917 and Les attended schools there. He married Lillian May Brunsvold on Dec. 7, 1930 in Mason City. Les was employed by Armour's for 43 years working as a ham boner. He retired in 1973 and then performed custodial work at First Presbyterian Church and St. Paul Lutheran Church here in Mason City. Les was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church for over 62 years, a member of Benevolence Lodge #145 A.F. & A.M., Eastern Star, and White Shrine. He was very active in Boy Scouts having received his Silver Beaver and Lamb Awards.
Survivors include his wife, Lillian May Snyder of Gowrie, Iowa; sons, Duane L. Snyder of Saudi Arabia, and the Rev. Marlin E. Snyder and wife, Gretchen, of Moorland, Iowa; four grandchildren, Lisa Schultz, Leslie D. Snyder, Cindy Snyder, Shelly Fender; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters; two brothers, and two grandchildren, Philip and Steven.
