8/21/1995PHOENIX, Ariz. -- Melvin Arnold Peterson, 77, of 4140 N. 27th St., Phoenix, Ariz. 85016, passed away Wednesday (Aug. 2, 1995) in Phoenix after a short battle with cancer. A memorial service was held Sunday (Aug. 13, 1995) at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Phoenix. He was born July 8, 1918 in Avery, Iowa. He spent most of his boyhood in Britt, Iowa. At age 21 he enlisted in the United States Army. He served in the Aleutian Islands during the Pacific Campaign of World War II for which he was awarded the Bronze Star. On Sept. 9, 1949, he married Viola Parsons. They lived in Britt, Belmond, Clear Lake and Mason City, Iowa, before moving to Phoenix in 1956.
He is survived by his son Phil Peterson, daughter-in-law Rita, grandchildren, Lisa, Kris and Marc, his companion, Margaret Wood, all of Phoenix; two sisters-in-law, Marge Gilbertson and her husband, Floyd of Apple Valley, Minn., and June Monson and her husband, Earl of Forest City, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
