8/24/1995BELMOND -- Johann Carl Diekhuis, 74, of Belmond, died Monday (Aug. 21, 1995) at the North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Laurence Garrett officiating. Burial will be in the Belmond Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m today at the Tenold Funeral Home.
Johann Carl Diekhuis, the son of Harbert Diekhuis and Martha Diekhuis (nee) Sandersfeld was born Sept. 14, 1920, near Klemme. He received his education in the Goodell Country Schools. He was united in marriage to Mable Benson on April 27, 1944, at Clarion. They farmed together east of Belmond for 51 years. They moved into Belmond in 1981, but continued to farm until retiring in 1994. Johann was a member of the United Methodist Church, served on the administrative board, pastor parish, and many other areas of the church. He was a veteran of World War II. He served as an employee of the A.S.C.S. for 40 years. He helped build and organize the Belmond Country Club.
Johann is survived by his wife, Mable, of Belmond; one son, Delos Diekhuis and his wife, Linda, of Belmond; one daughter, Carlene Diekhuis of Rochester, Minn.; grandchildren, Brandon and Stacy; brothers, Harbert Diekhuis of Mason City, Harry Diekhuis of Carisle, and Marvin Diekhuis of Garner; a sister-in-law, Rita Diekhuis of Mason City; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents and youngest brother, Irving.
