BELMOND - Ruby P. Morris, 94, passed away Wednesday (Sept. 27, 2000) at the Belmond Health Care Center, Belmond. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the United Church of Christ Congregational in Belmond with the Rev. Lynne Spencer-Smith officiating. Burial will take place in Graceland Cemetery near Rowan. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Dugger Ewing Funeral Home, Belmond, and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Ruby Pearl Morris, daughter of Perlie and Nellie Andrews LaGue, was born July 28, 1906, near Rowan. She grew up in the Rowan area where she attended country school. Ruby graduated from Rowan High School and then attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She then taught country school for one year. Ruby was united in marriage with Orra Glenn Morris on Feb. 16, 1927, in Rowan. The couple made their home southwest of Belmond where they farmed and Ruby worked as a housewife and mother. Ruby was employed by the Clarion Nursing Home for a time and also enjoyed raising chickens. In 1987, the couple moved into Belmond. She became a resident of the Belmond Health Care Center in 1994. She enjoyed gardening, flowers and photography. Ruby was a member of the United Church of Christ Congregational in Belmond and the Rebekah Lodge.

She is survived by one son, Derl, and his wife, Betty, of Belmond; four grandchildren, RoxAnne, Kerry, Brian and Valerie; three step grandchildren, Rick, David and Dennis; eight great-grandchildren, Joshua, Courtney, Susan, Dara, Michael, Ryan, Alexandra and Bobby; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Matthew and Amanda; one great-great-grandson, Kyle; and two brothers-in-law, Francis Morris of Belmond and Gerald (Red) Knight of Mason City. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Glenn; one son, Gordon; one grandson, Lindsey; one sister; and one brother. Dugger Ewing funeral Home.
