05/03/1997FOREST CITY -- Mrs. Elizabeth George, 88, died Friday (May 2, 1997) at her home in Forest City. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. James Catholic Church with the Rev. Jerry Kopacek of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marshalltown officiating. Burial will be in St. James Catholic Cemetery, Forest City. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday with a scripture service at 7 p.m. all at Petersen Lund Funeral Home.
Elizabeth M. George was born in Wright County, on March 16, 1909, the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Russell. she graduated from Clarion High School and attended Ellsworth Teachers College. She taught in the Wright County rural schools for 13 years and two years at Clarion Elementary schools. She worked as a teletype operator for four years and as a medical receptionist for Dr. Bruce in Fort Dodge for two years. She was married to Carroll George on Feb. 12, 1954. Mrs. George was a past president of the Forest City Woman's Club and a long time member of the Forest City Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church and served on various committees of leadership.
She is survived by two sons and their spouses, Gary and Gloria George of Northwood, and Eugene and Leanne George of Lakewood, Calif; six grandchildren, Michael, Dennis, and Lisa George and Tammy Hain, Theresa and Daniel George; three great-grandchildren, Dana and Hanna George and Brooke Hain; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Carroll, five brothers and a sister.
