Mabel Solheim funeral held July 8

Funeral services for Mabel Amanda Luthro Solheim, 90, who died Friday, July 3, 1998, were held Wednesday, July 8 at First Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar with Reverend Robert Porisch officiating.

Mabel was born May 5, 1908 on a farm near Goldfield, Iowa, the daughter of John and Martha (Mandsagar) Luthro. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith at Lake Lutheran Church near Renwick, Iowa, where the family were faithful members. Mabel received her early education in the area rural school and later graduated from the Clear Lake High School. She served mostly in the field of nursing, while also using her God given talents in singing with her harp accompaniment. She enjoyed writing poetry, was choir director, Bible and Sunday School teacher, and was involved in other church activities, both before and after her marriage. She was united in marriage June 22, 1946, to Olaf Solheim, a farmer of Minnewaukan, N.D. They continued to farm into their retirement years. In March 1995 with the water flooding threats to their land and home near Devils Lake and also desiring to be near extended family, they purchased a home in St. Ansgar. Olaf passed away in August of the same year.

Mabel is survived by several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Olaf, four brothers and three sisters. Burial was in the Lake Lutheran Cemetery in Renwick.
