John L. Scheppler, 71, of Clarion, died Thursday (Oct. 9, 1997) at the Community Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the United Church of Christ Congregational, with the Rev. Curt Miner officiating. Burial will be in Galt Cemetery, Galt, with military honors by the Clarion American Legion. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Willim Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the Fanconi Anemia Research Fund in care of the family.
John Lester Scheppler was born Feb. 2, 1926, on a farm near Woolstock. Survivors include four children, John A. Scheppler of Ames; Brian D. Scheppler of Denver, Colo.; Diane Hayes, Ft. Belvoir, Va., and Deborah R. Ott, Indianapolis, Ind.; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; three brothers, Delbert of Gladbrook; Bernard of Clarion, and Wilmer of Kimberling City, Mo.; and four sisters, Mildred Porter of Des Moines; Dorothy McCloskey, Seattle, Wash.; Marjorie Tudor of Charles City, and Beverly Johnson of Lucas. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one granddaughter.
