VIRGINIA, Minn. - Miriam Marcella Vroman, 89, died Thursday (July 19, 2001) at the Arrowhead Senior Living Community in Virginia, Minn. She was born Jan. 28, 1912, in Popejoy, Franklin County, Iowa, to Almon and Flossie (Stewart) Drury. She was raised in Dows, graduating high school in Dows and then graduating from Iowa Methodist School of Nursing. She had post-graduate training in psychiatric nursing at Cook County Hospital in Chicago and at Washington State University. She was employed at Washington State Psychiatric Hospital as the head of the surgical department. She married Eldon Harold Vroman on May 11, 1935, in Coupeville, Wash. They continued working in Washington State until the start of World War II, when they moved to Texas. They later settled in Dows, where she served her family and others. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Dows. After her children were raised, she went to work as Wright County Public Health Nurse. During retirement, she and Eldon spent the winters in St. Petersburg, Fla., and the summers at Lake Cornelia, Clarion, Iowa.
She is survived by her two daughters, Katherine (Jared) Cohen, of Virginia, Minn., and Marsha (Russell) Mott, of Clear Lake; five grandchildren, Nathaniel (Mary) Greenwood, of Monticello, Minn., Jedediah (Laurie) Greenwood, of Minneapolis, Minn., Honora (Cory) Thorson, of West St. Paul, Minn., Adam Mott, of Detroit, Mich., and Andrew Mott, of Clear Lake; three great-granddaughters; and one sister, Judy (Bill) Harris, of Iowa Falls. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eldon Vroman; her parents, and one sister.
