Randy Ray Wicks, 41, of Newhall, Calif., formerly of Belmond, passed away Saturday (Aug. 3, 1996) at his home. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, at the California Arts College, Valencia, Calif. Visitation will be held from noon until 7 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until noon on Thursday at the Santa Clarita Mortuary, Newhall, Calif. There will be services held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, 1996, at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Belmond, with the Rev. James Carpenter officiating. Interment will be in the Belmond Cemetery, Belmond, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Dugger-Ewing Funeral Home, Belmond.

Randy was born Oct. 30, 1954, in Belmond, Iowa, the son of Raymond E. and Imogene Cook Wicks. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Kanawha, Iowa. He graduated from Belmond High School in 1973. Randy attended college at the California Institute of Arts and graduated in 1980 with a B.F.A. degree in film and animation. Randy served as the editorial cartoonist for the Newhall Signal for 18 years. He won 18 state and national awards, and was the author/illustrator of three books. He was a member of the Los Angeles Press Club, lectured at UCLA, and served on various community boards. He considered the Santa Clarita area his "2nd" home.

Randy is survived by his fiancee, Kiza Stratton; his parents, Ray and Imogene of Belmond; three sisters, Cindy King and her husband, Jim, of Johnstown, Pa.; Connie Wicks of Iowa City, Iowa; and Chris Huffman and her husband, Joel, of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; three nephews, Jeff King, Justin and Jordan Huffman; one niece, Amy King; five aunts, Marion Harrington of Minneapolis, Minn., Maxine Maland and her husband, Paul, of Charles City, Iowa; LaVonne Norbush and her husband, Ben, of Brentwood, Calif.; Carole Basler of Thousand Oaks, Calif., and Iola Wicks of Chandler, Ariz.; one uncle, Everett Wicks of Kanawha, Iowa; and a host of friends. Randy was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Jane; and his brother, Tommy Ryan.
