Esther Tillman, 75, of Kankakee, Ill., formerly of Clarion, died Thursday (April 4, 1996) at Kankakee Terrace. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Church of Christ in Clarion, with Mark Young officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Schreffler Funeral Home, Kankakee, Ill,. is in charge of arrangements.

Esther Hockenson was born on Dec. 17, 1920, in Winnebago County, the third child of Albert and Hannah (Strom) Hockenson. She was baptized and confirmed by the Rev. O.R. Sletten at Salem Lutheran Church, Lake Mills. She was a graduate of Lake Mills High School in 1939 and teacher training in Cedar Falls. She taught school at Storby Country School in 1939 and 1940 and at No. 3 Bristle in 1940 and 1941. Esther was united in marriage to Daryl Tillman of Clarion on April 12, 1941. To this union were born three children, Daryl Eugene, Rhoda Marie and Curtis James. Blessed be her memory.

She is survived by her sons, Daryl Tillman and Curtis Tillman and his wife, Ann; six grandchildren; one sister, Violet Monson of Forest City; two sisters-in-law, Lola Hockenson of Woodville, Wis., and Gladys Woodly of Rowan; and one brother-in-law, Richard Tillman and his wife, Darlene, of Rowan. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Daryl; and her daughter, Rhoda; one sister, Irene; and one brother, Lloyd Hockenson.
