Victor M. Sween, 87, of Algona and formerly of Fort Dodge, died early Saturday morning at Emmetsburg Care Center. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church, Algona, with the Rev. Howard Vranken officiating. Commital services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the St. Olaf Lutheran Cemetery in Fort Dodge with the Rev. Mike Soppeland, associate pastor at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, officiating. Visitation is at Wilson Funeral Home, Algona, until 9 a.m. Tuesday, when the body will be taken to the church.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred; sons Jim and Art, both of Eldora; daughter, Vicki Boelman, Algona, eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; sister, Selma Opheim, Bode.

He was born and educated in Bode, graduating from Bode High School. He then attended a printing school in Chicago, Ill., later working as a Linotype operator in Clarion, Emmetsburg, and Virgina, Minn. In 1936 he married Mildred Smith at Bode. In 1953 he began working for the Messenger where he worked until his retirement in 1973. Following his retirement, he was responsible for installing offset printing at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge. He was a member of The Fort Dodge Local of the typographical Union, and the Lutheran Men's Group.

Funeral services for Victor M. Sween, 87, of Algona, were conducted at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, July 31, at First Lutheran Church, Algona, with the Rev. Howard Vrankin officiating. Burial was in St. Olaf Cemetery, Fort Dodge, with Larry Legore, Duane Habeger, Adolph Oakland, John Nordman, Dan Peterson and Gerald Soderberg acting as casket bearers. The Wilson Funeral Home of Algona was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Sween died Saturday, July 28, at the Emmetsburg Care Center. He is survived by his wife, Mildred, two sons, Jim and Art, both of Eldora, one daughter, Vicki, Mrs. Allyn Boelman, of Algona, eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, two great step-grandchildren, and on sister, Selma, Mrs. Carl Opheim, of Bode. He was preceded in death by his parents and seven brothers and sisters, two in infancy, Clifford, Oscar, and Levi Sween, Agnes Winther and Mathilda Sween.

Victor Sween, the son of Ole and Christina (Knudslien) Sween, was born February 4, 1903, in Bode, IA. After graduating from Bode High School, he attended a printing school in Chicago. On December 4, 1936, he married Mildred Smith in Bode. He worked as a linotype operator in Clarion, Emmetsburg and Virginia, MN, before moving to Ft. Dodge, where he was employed with THE MESSENGER from 1953 until retiring in 1973. After his retirement, he was responsible for offset printing at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Ft. Dodge. A current member of First Lutheran Church in Algona, he always had been active in his church, participated in Lutheran Men's groups, and played on a Lutheran softball team. He was an avid bowler, golfer and bridge player and a member of the Ft. Dodge local typographical union. He and his wife strongly supported their children in all of their activities.
