02/07/1996Dorothy Kathleen Jones, 74, of Belmond, died Monday (Feb. 5, 1995) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Francis Xavier Church, Belmond, with the Rev. Tom Currier and Deacon Nick Schmit officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Tenold Funeral Home, Belmond, with a 2:30 p.m. rosary led by the Rosary Society and Catholic Daughters of the Americas and a 7 p.m. Scripture service. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy may direct them to the American Cancer Society, Easter Seals or a charity of your choice.
Dorothy Kathleen (Hocraffer) Jones, the daughter of Henry and Bridget (O'Neal) Hocraffer was born in Mason City on Nov. 2, 1921. She attended and graduated with honors from Holy Family High School in 1939. She was united in marriage to Haydn E. Jones on Dec. 29, 1955, in Mason City. In December of 1957, the couple settled in Belmond, where they raised three children. Dorothy was an active member of the St. Francis Xavier Church, was associated for many years with the Belmond Community Chest Drive and was selected "Mother of the Year" by the Belmond Independent.
Surviving are her husband, Haydn E. Jones of Belmond; daughter, Jan Ellen Jones, at home; sons, Kevin A. Jones and Brian E. Jones, both of Minneapolis, Minn.; a sister, Maureen Berding of Mason City; and a brother, Robert Hocraffer of Clarion. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Lois Jean Lester; and one brother, Don Hocraffer.
