John Heginger was born October 10, 1868, in Viski, Austria. Three years later his parents, Joseph and Josephine Heginger, brought him with them to America. The family settled on a farm near Cedar Falls, Iowa, and later moved to Belmond, here John attended rural school and became a member of the Lutheran Church. He later transfered membership to the Klemme Methodist Church. In March 1896, at the age of 28, John Heginger and Fannie Kratchmer were married at the home of the bride's parents in Shellrock, Iowa. They lived on a farm in Avery Township for many years, then farmed in Liberty Township for twelve years, after which they moved into the town of Klemme, which has been their home for the past twenty-six years. John and Fannie Heginger lived together fifty-four years, and then death took Fannie, this was in October 1950, seven months ago. They celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1946. John Heginger brought a team of horses and some farming equipment with when he moved to Klemme. And then for a quarter of a century he served our community by plowing gardens, mowing weeds, hauling away ashes, bringing fill for lawns - all humble tasks, but well and faithfuly done. About a year ago John Heginger retired from the strenuous work being a teamster, and since then became gradually weaker and finally "faded away" on Saturday evening June 2nd, 1951.
He reached the age of 82 1/2 years and leaves 59 direct descendents. Eight children: Mollie - Mrs. Lee Price, Mason City; Martha - Mrs. Will Tiggeman, Klemme; Anna - Mrs. John Pannhoff, Garner; Carl Heginger - Klemme; Fannie - Mrs. Jacob Blumer, Garner; Doris - Mrs. Edwin Medaus, Klemme; Cecclia - Mrs. Taus Harms, Belmond; Ruth - Mrs. Harold Lassahn, Klemme; also, forty-two grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and other more distant relatives and friends.
