James Don Sanford Services Tuesday
Services were conducted at the Eyler Funeral Home in Clarion, November 5, 1968 with a graveside service and burial at Graceland cemetery in Creston, Iowa. Rev. Calvin Milan, pastor of the Clarion Church of Christ, officiated.
James Donavan Sanford was born at Mt. Ayr, Iowa, Dec. 18, 1906 and departed from this life on Nov. 2, 1968 at the age of 61 years, 10 months and 14 days. His early life was spent on a farm near Mt. Ayr, where he received his education. He graduated from Mt. Ayr High School in the year of 1926. He was united in marriage to Winifred Shockley on Dec. 11, 1936. To this union was born one son, Jim Sanford. Don and his family have made their home in Clarion, Iowa, for the past sixteen years. He was employed by the Clarion Public Schools and had great satisfaction in his work as bus driver and his many hours of association with Community young people. He spent many hours of relaxation in his garden which he so tenderly cared for each year. He was a long time member of the Christian Church in Creston and Clarion.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, James H. and Pearl Sanford. Death came following a severe heart attack Saturday evening, Nov. 2, 1968 at his home in Clarion. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Winifred, his son, Jim, and daughter-in-law, Karen and a granddaughter, Susan Lynne of Webster City and a brother, Cleve Sanford of Des Moines, IA, and a host of relatives and friends. Following the service, the family met at the Christian Church in Creston, where a lunch was served by the ladies of the congregation.
