William Henry Stanbery, 85, of Iowa Falls died Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at Fort Worth, Texas. Memorial services were Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at Union Cemetery in Iowa Falls. Military honors were provided by Hyman-Peavey American Legion Post No. 188, Iowa Falls. William was born July 24, 1917, at Clarion, the son of Harry M. and Ruth [Campbell] Stanbery. He graduated from the Clarion Community Schools in 1934, and earned a degree in optometry from the University of Illinois. William served with the U.S. Army from 1942-1945. On May 21, 1946, he married Frances Bateman at Weatherford, Texas. They operated an optometrist office in Iowa Falls until he retired in 1985. He was a member of the First Christian Church and the Iowa Falls Lions Club.

He is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Stanbery Black and husband Donald [he passed away July 11, 2003] of Fort Worth, Texas; two grandchildren, Taylor and Caitlin Black both of Fort Worth; and one brother Ross Stanbery of Clarion [he passed away March 5, 2004]. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and a sister, Harriet Stanbery. Memorials may be directed to the Iowa Falls Lions Scholarship Fund, P. O. Box 606, Iowa Falls, IA, 50126. The Linn's Funeral Homes Iowa Falls Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
