E. Monte Potter, 71, of Iowa Falls died Thursday, March 6, 2003, at Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls. Services were held Tuesday, March 11, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Iowa Falls with burial in the Love of Christ Lutheran Church in Mesa, Ariz. Rev. Kenneth Krueger officiated.
Monte was born April 28, 1931, in Harlan to Elmer and Grace Christiansen Potter. He graduated from Harlan High School and Iowa State University in 1956. He lived in Marion for 11 years and worked at United Fire and Casualty Company in Cedar Rapids. On Dec. 13, 1953, he married Joan Jerde at Clarion. They moved to Iowa Falls in 1967 and he was part-owner of Harris-Potter Insurance from 1967-93. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Iowa Falls and past president of the Iowa Falls Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife, Joan; a son, Todd, and wife Michelle of Mesa, Ariz., a daughter, Katy Clark, and husband Jere of Phoenix, Ariz.; two granddaughters, Kaitlyn and Ashley Potter of Mesa; a sister-in-law, Jan Jerde of Clarion; and a nephew, Joe Jerde, of Clarion. He was preceded in death by his parents. Surls Funeral Home of Iowa Falls was in charge of arrangements.
