July 25, 1923-July 29, 2004

Donald E. Borschel, 81, of Alden died Thursday, July 29, 2004, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshaltown. Funeral services were Monday, Aug. 2, at the Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls. Burial was in the Friends Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Hyman-Peavey American Legion Post No. 188 of Iowa Falls. Donald was born July 25, 1923, in Clarion to John and Bessie Borschel. He attended school in Iowa Falls and in 2002, received his honorary high school diploma from Gov. Tom Vilsack. Donald served in the U.S. Army during WW II. On June 18, 1976, he was united in marriage to Patricia Schneider at Lansing, Mich. Donald had been employed as a truck driver. He enjoyed camping and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia; two sons, Corey Borschel and wife Katie of Bellevue, Neb., and Charles Borschel; one daughter, Marsha Reed of Des Moines; two stepsons, Carter Bridges and wife Kay of Alden and Todd Bridges of Los Angeles, Calif.; four stepdaughters, Tanya Fouts, Kimberly Johnston and husband Rick, and Brenda Kurauskas and husband Al, all of Alden, and Melinda Life and husband Brad of Ankeny; 18 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchldren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Larry Borschel, during the Vietnam War; and one brother, Ken Borschel.
Surls Funeral Home of Iowa Falls was in charge of arrangements.
