Shirley Peters, 64, of Dows, died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at North Iowa Mercy Medical Center in Mason City. Services will be held Thursday, Jan. 25, at 11a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Dows, with burial in Fairview Cemetery, Dows. Rev. Tom Hershey will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday, Jan. 24 from 5-7 p.m. at the Elledge Funeral Home in Dows. Memorials may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church in Dows or the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.
Shirley was born July 15, 1936, in Clarion, to John and LaVerne Suiter McDermott. Shirley graduated from Dows High School in 1954 and on May 15, 1955, she married Earnest Peters at her parents' home in Dows. They lived in Mason City and Lake Tahoe, Calif., before moving back to the Dows area in 1966. Shirley was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School and held various offices. She was also a member of the USA Health Care Center Review Committee.
Survivors include her husband, Earnest; and two children at home, LuAnn and Steven. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Keith in infancy and Leo James. Elledge Funeral Home in Dows is in charge of arrangements.
