August 31, 1918 - September 22, 2000

Harley W. Rastetter, 82, of Buckeye, died Friday, Sept. 22, 2000, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. Services were held Monday, Sept. 25 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Buckeye, with burial in the Buckeye Cemetery. Rev. Matthew Rueger officiated. Military rites were provided by the Buckeye VFW.

Harley was born Aug. 31, 1918, in Buckeye, to Joseph and Olga Sielaff Rastetter. He graduated from Buckeye High School in 1937 and served in the United States Army from 1941-45 stationed in the Aleutian Islands for two years. On June 5, 1948, he married LaVon Weber at Dows. He farmed all of his life and retired in 1987. Harley was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Buckeye where he served on various boards. He coached Little League in Buckeye and was past Post Commander of the Buckeye VFW.

He is survived by his wife, LaVon; four sons, Mark and wife, Donna, of Waterloo, Thor and wife, Julie of Guttenberg, Bruce of Hubbard, and Brent and wife, Julie, of Alden; a daughter, Julia Smith and husband, Tim, of Hudson; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and a sister, Alice Schafer of Medford, Ore. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Fred and wife, Myrtle; and a sister, Clara Smuck. Surls Funeral Home of Iowa Falls was in charge of arrangements.
